  1. Locate your vehicle's OBDII port. It's usually found on the driver's side under the dashboard.
  2. Park outside with a clear view of the sky. The ignition needs to be on for power and location services.
  3. Activate your device (if not already done). Visit app.mitrail.com and follow the instructions.
  4. Plug the device firmly into the OBD-II port.
  5. Start the ignition and check the lights. All lights should be solid to confirm successful installation.

LED Status Lights

The LED lights can help diagnose your device's status. For accurate readings:

  1. Unplug and then replug the device.
  2. Wait two minutes.
  3. Compare the lights to the information provided by miTrail

Orange - Network

No light - Off
Slow blinking - Searching for network
Fast blinking - Network available, not connected
Solid light - Network available, connected

Note: Network can be low in parking structures and other areas with limited visibility of the sky or in rural areas where your cell phone would not work.

Green - GPS

No light - Off
Slow blinking - On
Fast blinking - On, fixing location
Solid - On, connected and location fixed

Note: GPS can be low in parking structures and other areas with limited visibility of the sky or in rural areas where your cell phone would not work.

Red - OBD-II Connection

No light - Ignition off or not connected
Solid - Ignition on, connected

Note: If you do not see any LED Status Indicators at all, the device is not getting
power. Check the fuse for your OBD port, as it's the usual culprit. Additionally, devices may need to be replaced if failing to connect to OBD-II due to wear and tear over time. If within 1 year please reach out to support for details.
